While the gap is closing, Texas is still a very Red state. Rate of change has increased in the last three or four years due to folks moving here from California, corporate headquarters relocations, more people moving here from cold county, etc. Latest Abbott failures will help. This week Abbott is supporting a bill that says social media sources cannot block or close the accounts of Texans. Sounds like something else Trump has asked him to do. You would think someone would tell them there's no bear in that tree.

According to some sources the grid was evaluated many years ago. Two of the recommendations were to winterize and increase the amount of excess capacity. Assuming that is true, my guess is the providers decided the impact to the bottom was less by contributing to a political campaign or leaving a few envelopes full of money in the right pockets. There's a lot to untangle and a lot of folks that will not want that to happen. An indication of my confidence the problems will be fixed is that I am researching which generator is best for our needs.

If Texas connected to the grids like all other states our providers would have competition. Upgrades needed would be done quicker than you can draw the star of Texas.
I think it is El Paso that is connected to one of the grids, wherever it was, they had no loss of power at all.

bcredliner,

RE: ..."I am researching which generator is best for our needs."

Not a gen expert but we have had a Generac whole house gen since day 1 at our western NC Mtn home, since Sept 2001.

It ran like a top until a yearish ago when it was simply worn out/tired and replacement parts for a 19 yr old model were v difficult to source per my electrician.

He is a Gen 'dealer', but also sells and installs other brands, so I had a new 22 kW whole house Generac installed to replace the old unit.

The new one is sleeker looking, well built, has lots of interior room for 'servicing', and runs several dB quieter.

My electrician/installer, (about all he does is service and install gens these days), also noted that Generac runs free extended warranties a few times a year, so we put off the new Gen for a few weeks waiting for the warranty promo window to open.

Not pitching the brand, but few if any of us have had more than one brand so other than personal anecdote, our Generac is a v good unit, and has saved our bacon literally and figuratively, for 2 decades.

We have underground utilities on our little 5 house high elevation mtn road, but the power lines coming up the Mtn from town are above ground for the long run; thus, we lose power often and the gen saves our fanny.

My 50 Cts.

Thanks for the input. There certainly are a lot of options. Will look at Generac models closer. Thanks again.

Welcome...my add'l 50Cts is if looking into whole house gens, you will probably have a few installers/dealers that do almost only gens vs a 'standard' electrician, in your area.

My local person, (who did the orig 20 yrs ago and the replacement a year ago), does ~ 90% generator work and 10% std electrical work; he happens to be a Generac 'dealer'/approved installer. Your area may have similar people but experienced in other brands, as I wasn't pumping the Gen brand generator.

22 kW runs a lot of 'house', as seldom do people have every electrical situ on in their house.

Otoh, with this recent winter and the TX situ, I suspect many are looking into whole house gens which may equal shorter supply, jacked pricing, and installers backed up.

Nearly every house on our Mtn ridge/top has a WH gen, as we all have propane of some tank quantity.

Those with nat gas in their area are fortunate, though propane does well for us for hot water, boiler fired heat, dryer, and the Gen.

Back to Trump,

Thanks for input.

Back to Trump. It is so refreshing to listen to WH press conferences. New appointees have been on conveying their priorities and answering questions. There is no finger pointing at anyone. All of them actually know what they are taking about.

That’s the way I remember it. Professionals doing their jobs. Not the circus show from the last 4 years.

Yes... and most enjoyable is not having to wake up each day to learn what provocative BS Donald Trump tweeted in the early morning hours. While I may not agree with everything that the Biden administration is doing, they are far more intelligent, professional, sane, rational, and trustworthy than the knucklehead and the sycophant members of his administration. I am sleeping much better these days.....

OHHHH the AZ Audio has lit the fire and the truth will soon expose all the players! Get your popcorn and get ready for the False Flags to distract as the media and bigtech will start to try and discredit the forensic audit.

Do some research and see what is happening!

9 State in addition to AZ now are look looking into complete forensic audio of the fraud that took play in the 2020 election!!!

The COV-ID is being exposed as a HOAX, the (DA) and (CB) are running and scrambling.

The ORANGEMAN was right all along!!

What's going on in AZ is not a forensic audit. What's going on is a Republican fiasco. A complete waste of time and money. AZ can count until there are no black pens left in the entire country and it won't change anything. The states and Electoral College have certified the vote count. Biden has legally been elected President.

How can you believe COVID 19 is a hoax? What killed 600,000 people in the US so far and millions around the world?
