Dc-dc charger

Hi gang I have a ctec dc-dc charger which was wired directly to cranking battery via a fused lead and Andersen plug which I connected to the charger this set up to charge a deep cycle battery whilst driving the ctec protected the cranking battery this kept the battery charged for use when camping etc.
My question is can I use the 12v outlet in the rear as a supply source for a dc-dc charger? It would make life simpler rather than going directly to the crank battery and dealing with the smart alternator
Cheers keith
