I apply the gasket maker, then clamp the piece as best I can with slide clamps or c-clamps with pieces of wood and/or cardboard to prevent marring the leather surface.

It works great. Anytime a door panel comes off it gets the treatment as preventative maintenance. I ended up making a short YouTube video on it when I was doing a stereo upgrade.
