Ok fine, pull the water pump, and the two water pipes behind the water pump decide to come along for the ride. Cool, will get o-rings for them then.
However, I didnt know those pipes are like a couple of feet long and they attach to is at the rear of the engine!
So now it looks like I'll have to pull the intake manifold to replace those pipe orings or risk a leak...

Correct. If it's like the E39 540 anyway, which it looks like it is. Joys of BMW design.
