I have one and installed the Apple CarPlay extension
As soon as the car starts, it goes directly into CarPlay mode; somewhere along the installation process it asked if it should auto-start CarPlay; I did not require any additional programming
It takes 2-3 secs to launch (Android Start Screen), then stays in the main menu for another 3-4 secs and then goes to CarPlay (APK app), which opens Apple Maps. I do not need to press anything.....
So there should be a setting to auto-start your APK...
