Foxwells are easy to use, and a good supplement to more BMW-specific software

Foxwell scan tools all seem to reset codes, even the lower cost onesBut, that's not you want or need. You'll want the Foxwell NT510's, 520's, 530's, and the NT710 series tools, that have BMW-specific programming as well as the generic OBD functions.
You can also buy other manufacturers' programming for hese scan-tools, to make them work for what-have-you. They're bidirectional, too, so you can activate and test various components. There may be other tools in their lineup that may have similar functions, but I don't know any specifics.
I've reset many codes with mine, and rest adaptations and raise the idle speed, but haven't tried any other changes. For the money, these tools are very handy and useful, and many here carry theirs in the glove box.
