Probably a topic that has been beaten to death many times over, but searches weren't very revealing so I'm seeking some advice.
I'm considering three options for standard 255/55R18 wheels (yes, how dull!) and would like some users opinions.
The choices are (not in any order):
- Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus
- Pirelli Scorpion All Season Plus 3
- Michelin Primacy Tour A/S
- Any other suggestions within my specs
Pirelli Scorpion Verdes are coming off - they were OK, wasn't super impressed.
The all-stock X5d has 175,000 miles on it, in great shape thanks to the attentions of an excellent local mechanics workshop. Most driving is the usual - local errands, a couple of long treks 2-3 a year with a light trailer, a few 500 mile interstate runs & a few opportunities for fun stuff but not often.
South Louisiana is extremely hot, it rains quite a bit, and is below freezing only a few days a year. Generally the road surfaces are somewhere between poor and terrible, with a few pleasant surprises.
Allegedly, the X5 might have exceeded the speed limit by a considerable margin once or twice, oh OK regularly, so higher speed stability/control etc is important.
Being old, poor and cheap, decent mileage is a requirement - my days of changing tires after 12,000 miles on a 911 are long gone!
Thanks in advance...
