Hi there


I have a 2004 X5 Diesel Automatic that has done about 200k miles.


The other day i was driving and then the car went into limp mode. After i stopped, the car cooled down and it started as normal again.


When i got home i connected my diagnostic computer to the car and I got this error -


Fault Code 005088
EGS Sensor Transmission Switch L1 - L4
DTC = P0705
(Transmission Range Sensor A Circuit (PRNDL - INPUT)

So I have few questions for anyone that can help me please?


1) Do I need a new range switch or can i clean my existiing one?


2) I know that i need to change the gear box oil and filter, would it make sense to change the solenoids at the same time or, can i test and clean them using an ultrasonic tank etc?
