Wait a second, SG, you should demand to get that function/feature back. I have a 2001 X5 and for the past 5 years and 133,xxx miles, that function has been working flawlessly on the my X5. Yes, there is a setting to disable it, but you can get someone witht the DIS computer to re-enable it. Yes, it is a software setting and yes it can be re-enabled. I have had some custom DIS settings done at the dealer if you know the right person (also at no cost) .
