Can't believe no one has replied to this, especially several European members we have here. Here's my 2 cents...
First of all, why don't you get the diesel? Those seem to be prefered over there and we wish we could get them here! Also, we don't have a choice on the engine. The 2.5 is not offered here. It's a 3.0si or nothing.
Second, and more to your point, I bought the 3.0i over the 2.5i (2005 model, 225 HP) FOR the extra power. The gas mileage ratings between the two were not great enough to warrant going with the smaller 2.5 engine. I'm not sure but doesn't the 2.5si put out 215 HP? That's pretty close to what I've got and the 225 does me fine.
