trim painting

i want to paint my intererior trim pieces, and the exterior trim pieces as well possibly. Probably a dark grey or something. Two of the door pieces have the cracking on them though. So I am wondering if sanding it down, which i need to do anyway for the primer and paint to adhere will take care of those or if it will show up in the paint job.

anyone attempted this before? Or where can i get replacement door pieces inexpensively? Doesn't matter what kind since I am painting them.

Also if the existing exterior trim is removed can it be put back on easily?
