Consumer groups welcome car price lawsuit
Consumer advocates are applauding the launch of a class-action lawsuit that is seeking more than $2-billion in damages from major auto-makers and dealers for allegedly conspiring to fix car prices 25 per cent to 35 per cent higher in Canada than in the United States.
“If there has been a conspiracy, it would be a righteous cause for a class-action lawsuit,” said Bruce Cran, president of the Consumers Association of Canada.
“This. . .has been going on for two years as the Canadian dollar has been rising to its present point, and I've got hundreds and hundreds of e-mails from people giving me the details of their exploits into the car market,” he said when reached by telephone Wednesday in Vancouver.
