To answer the question in your subject heading, a baby doesn't need a father if the mother can care for the baby on her own or has her family to help her. Having parents that divorced when I was really young, I would like to think that I turned out OK. I had enough authority figures in my life that I didn't need my father around. As for Alexis Stewart, maybe she feels ready to have a baby now because she's at a point in her life where she can raise a child with the attention it would need. Don't know why she's not trying with a man...maybe it would take too much time and effort to work on a relationship and her biological clock is ticking away, or maybe she's a lesbian, who knows.
in any case, she has the financial means to raise a child, it's a matter of whether she's emotionally ready to devote her time.
