How rough is the upshift? The upshift is likely not going to be seamless, you'll probably get a minor nudge but that's the sporting nature of the X5. You're lucky you get the full redline though! On the X3, no matter what mode you're in, it upshifts prematurely at 6000rpm in 1st gear.

Thankfully, the newer BMWs like my parent's E90 325i let me zing up to 7000rpm in all gears.
