I just ordered and received 5 Mann German oil filters for the E70 from autopartswarehouse.com (~ $10 apiece). From my last dealer oil change reciept, the 3.0si takes 7 qts of oil. Picked up a case of BMW synthetic oil from the dealer for around $5.80 a qt. The washer for the drain plug comes with the Mann oil filter. So just drain the old oil and use the new washer on the drain plug, change the filter (it's right on top of the engine, take it out using an inside out plastic zip lock bag to avoid mess), add new oil (7 qts for the 3.0) and add some oil to the filter to prevent start up starvation. Make sure you change the rubber gaskets on the filter insert (they come with the filter). Too bad there isn't a dipstick. On my Z3 I use a topsider vacuum system and drain the oil without going under the car. On this beast you'll have to go underneath.
