Where did you hear that? That is certainly not true. The operating system (windows xp) comes installed on the SSD, and the battery is not even installed in the laptop on delivery. Plus, you can change batteries on the go.
SSD works exactly like any other hard drive, except no moving parts. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, they have SSD memory. Your music is not lost if your battery dies either. SSD are faster than HDD, and they use less power so your battery lasts longer. The only downside of SSD is capacity and price. The same price will get you a much larger HDD than SSD.
As for the Intel Atom, it is not the quickest processor, but it's great with battery life. It's good for basic internet tasks, but don't expect to do a lot of multitasking or much in the way of multimedia.
