What I
THINK the original poster is referring to (as well as simoncpw) is if there is a way to have the
climate control system completely off when the car is started. Correct me if I'm wrong, Simoncpw, I think, is using the term "AC" when he really means "climate control system" and not specifically the AC. So to sum up (again, this is my interpretation):
1. with car running, switch off climate control system completely (fan is off, car inside is dead quiet, etc.)
2. turn off car
3. restart car
4. climate control starts up again all by itself and seemingly does not 'remember' the fact that it was
off when the car was shut off, which according to the car/key memory stuff it should conceiveably do.
The answer to this issue I believe is that there is no way to prevent the climate control from turning itself on at step 4 above, it's just the way it works. (At least I've never been able to get it work any other way)

ie:
1) while engine is running, switch off the AC completely, by pressing the fan speed all the way down... until the AC is shut off and the display goes off.
2) AC stays off... then switch off the car
3) when starting the car the next time, the AC will be switched on automatically, although out of the full AUTO mode and with the lowest fan speed.
4) I have to repeat step #1 to turn it off again
