Teddy Bear Cholla or "jumping cactus". For those who have not been "attacked" by a cholla, they have tiny barbs on their needles that make them very difficult to remove, and those needles are extremely sharp and will easily go through your toughest pair of jeans. The preferred method to remove one is to use a comb. Otherwise; when you try to pull it out, it flips over and nails you again. OUCH
