steering judder
BMW X5 D Sport 2003. Current miles 82,000.
I have had this problem for 18 months! Only at around 60mph.
I was told it was the discs (rotors) and as all 4 were below min thickness I replaced all. Problem became WORSE. Found various front suspension bushes were worn etc. Changed ALL and fitted new wheels/ tyres, judder much reduced but it became worse over the next 10,000 miles and I have just had the front suspension rebuilt with new shock absorbers, bushes etc., this has almost eliminated the judder but it is still there under hard breaking from say 80+ mph BUT only from 65 down to 50mph.
A disc judder would be at any speed although worse as the frequency hits the spring’s natural frequency or so I have been told by BMW GmbH.
At its worst the steering wheel is almost torn out of one’s hands.
I have also had the rear suspension checked and can find nothing untoward!
ANY IDEAS would be welcome
Peter.
