First off, :welcome: to X5world.

Regarding what needs to be done, it depends on whether it is an "oil service" or an "inspection service" It should say in the dash which one you are due for.

Here is an article that tells you what is performed for either one of these - http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-175.html As you can see, a lot of these are things that you can do on your own if you have some basic mechanical abilities. I too am out of warranty and I basically do all of the routine service myself.
