I'm curious about the tire warranty that's often mentioned here or on bimmerfest. And, I wonder if it's even necessary. I was at the local tire store to patch the tire on my other car and I inquired about how much it'll cost to replace the run-flats on our X5. They quoted me about $300-400 per tire.

Part of the selling point of the tire warranty is that the tires are very expensive and not patchable. Well, it's been documented that many have already patched their run-flats without any issues. And, if the replacement cost of the tire is only $300-400, I wonder if it's really worth it if the warranty is over $1000. Does the tire warranty cover normal wear? I wouldn't think so. If that is the case, this warranty is basically only covering accidental damage during the life of the tire which is about 3 yrs or so. So, are you going to have 4 incidences of un-repairable damage on your tires in 3-4 yrs? I somewhat doubt that.
