2010 X5 (35d?) New Owners: Anyone looked at the FACTORY tire warranty?

If you have taken delivery of a recent 2010 (or maybe late 2009) X5, have you popped in the "tire warranty" CD?

Mine seems to indicate that there is a road hazard warranty on the Michelin Latitude Tour HP "ZP" tires....

Anyone?

I'm curious about the tire warranty that's often mentioned here or on bimmerfest. And, I wonder if it's even necessary. I was at the local tire store to patch the tire on my other car and I inquired about how much it'll cost to replace the run-flats on our X5. They quoted me about $300-400 per tire.

Part of the selling point of the tire warranty is that the tires are very expensive and not patchable. Well, it's been documented that many have already patched their run-flats without any issues. And, if the replacement cost of the tire is only $300-400, I wonder if it's really worth it if the warranty is over $1000. Does the tire warranty cover normal wear? I wouldn't think so. If that is the case, this warranty is basically only covering accidental damage during the life of the tire which is about 3 yrs or so. So, are you going to have 4 incidences of un-repairable damage on your tires in 3-4 yrs? I somewhat doubt that.

Especially when the tread life is only about 20,000 miles and the $400 cost sounds like what a dealer would charge.

Not the "tire and wheel" scam/policy that dealers try and sell, but the standard warranty that comes with the BMW booklet and the associated documentation....

I am asking because the warranty I received (and I would think others as well) says:

"Self-Supporting Zero Pressure Tires (ZP)
Michelin® Self-Supporting Zero Pressure Tires (ZP) are covered by the limited
warranty for workmanship and materials and a Road Hazard Replacement Plan.
The terms and conditions of this limited warranty begin on page 4.
ONLY ZP tires are covered by this Road Hazard Replacement Plan."

and, from Page 4-5:

The ZP Assurance Plan
In addition to the limited warranty coverage described above, Michelin®
Self-Supporting Zero Pressure (ZP) tires also carry Michelin®’s exclusive ZP
Assurance Plan.
Most tire punctures can be repaired if the puncturing object is removed at
the first sign of the tire air loss. No tire, regardless of its quality, is
indestructible and even a self-supporting zero pressure tire can be
rendered unserviceable by road hazard injury. If this happens, Michelin®
will replace your tire under the same terms and conditions described in
“HOW REPLACEMENT CHARGES ARE CALCULATED.’’

So, who actually READ the warranty on that CD???

i really think depends where you live... this past january i hit a big pot hole and destroyed both front tires and rims.. total replacement cost was 1500.. 400 for the rims and 350 for the tires...

pot holes like that are everywhere in chicago... usually after the first freeze thaw cycle... the city is just overwhelmed and can't fix them all... and if it just snowed, its covered up so you can't see that theres a hole there... its not like you can avoid 'em if you can't see 'em

In case anyone is interested:

BMW apparently packaged the wrong (old) warranty with my 2010 X5.... this older michelin warranty has a road hazard clause.

Michelin has confirmed that will HONOR the warranty shipped with the car, even though it was BMWs mistake.

PS I am willing to bet I am the only one who has EVER inserted that damn CD in a computer and READ the actual warranty....

My '01 35D came with the Bridgestones, but out of curiousity I've checked the CD and it looks like they fixed the language for the Michelins.
