First off, $1000 repair bill is pretty typical - get used to it with the higher miles. Secondly, if they are not going to cover under warranty, I am sure the door handle issue is an easy DIY, just buy the part and have some fun. You are eventually going to have to open up the door panel to replace a window regulator, so why not go ahead and practice??
