Gear selector lever

Did any of you find the gear selector lever to be a safety hazard? More specifically, the way you put transmission into Park. In a year and a half of owning my X5, I had two occasions when I came to a stop, pushed a button on the top of the lever (but did not not push it deep enough), and left the foot off the break, getting ready to push the engine stop button. X5 started to move forward and I had to hit the break very fast because I was parked in front of a wall or another car.

I just think that a push of a button compared to a full arm motion to move a lever in Park on other cars does not have enough tactile feedback to clearly understand that the car actually shifted in Park.

Anybody else has this thought?
