Gear selector lever
I just think that a push of a button compared to a full arm motion to move a lever in Park on other cars does not have enough tactile feedback to clearly understand that the car actually shifted in Park. Anybody else has this thought? |

That's why they have the indicator on the dash and on the shift lever.

Indeed. But would it not be more convenient and intuitive if we did not have to confirm gear engagement via displays and indicators?
On a separate note, is there a way to do emergency engine shut off at a highway speed? |

As a recent owner, I have experienced the same issue. I have started to just shut the engine down while in drive while I still have my foot on the brake. It seems to put the car automatically into park and I waste one less movement as I get out of the car. Overall I think the "Start" button is a stupid idea compared to a simple key start unless you have comfort access.

Shift to neutral and press the start/stop button I expect.

But it seems to be the faddish thing nowadays, just because it is different. I suspect that if cars had start buttons for the past 30 years, luxury brands would be introducing the "insert key and turn" as a luxury feature... |

I found the whole E70 Push button interface for Park, Start/Stop far from intuitive. Note: BMW obviously knows this since they have several iDrive instruction screens to help condition us to the one true way
So i gave over to the force. Now when I am ready to turn off our 35d, I push Auto H (while I still have my foot on the brake) and then push the Stop button and remove the key. Our 35d automatically shifts to Park and sets the mechanical parking Brake. Funf Dreisig |

I don't have any complaints about using the Park button opposed to the traditional lever. I personally like it. It actually takes less effort to use the button versus a lever (though this difference is really insignificant... just like turning a key vs pressing a button to start the car).
I vaguely remember going through a very brief period of adjustment. But it's become natural for me now. I think you can also stop the car by simply hitting the "Start Button" with your foot on the brakes. It automatically shifts the car into the "P" position. This bypasses actually have to press the "P" on top of the shifter. I think that is how I've been doing it lately, but I'll need to confirm again when I drive out tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that this works because it's one of those things that BMW does better than Mercedes. I often find myself pressing the "Start Button" in our Mercedes, thinking that it will automatically shift it into park. I'll let go of the brakes to find out the car is off, but is still in gear! Now that is dangerous!
