have you checked fluid level?
Oil doesn't 'fail' in the normal sense of the word... It doesn't go bad and cause the car not to move, or to clunk, or to miss-shft. It does loose it's ability to protect other parts and THAT causes failures...It does get contaminated with grit and grim, from deteriorating friction plates, and THAT will get stuck in the valve body and cause issues.
For these reasons I recommend regular fluid changes BEFORE issues appear. Once you see issues it is too late to hope a fluid change will fix it.... usually.
Check the fluid level. And how hot is "really hot"???
