I'm on the way to getting this sorted now. Was talking to BMW UK who told me basically because the x5 was being exported the connected drive account was closed hence the car couldn't call home anymore.

Bmw UK have given me some instructions as to what to do to disable the assist and connected drive services without effecting any other systems such as phone kit.

Found the TCU & it had a german sim card in it alright.
