e70 bmw assist
First post here - Just got a 07 x5 which was imported from the United Kingdom and I'm based in republic of Ireland. The BMW Assist system is playing up since it can no longer communicate with bmw as it no longer has a data connection. Any suggestions on how to stop the system reporting this error. Can I get into a secret menu on the I-Drive and disable the BMW Assist Services myself? Is there a SIM Card inserted into the TCU that can be removed? Should I remove the assist module completely? Thanks, Alan |

When the TCU is reporting it no longre has a data connection, it may mean it can no longer connect to BMW. This may be because T-Mobile.de does not have a roaming agreement for Ireland. [ie you have No Service] I don't know how you turn off the warning.
You would not want to remove the TCU as you can use Navcoder to enable the Bluetooth and Voice control inside it. You could try a PAYG SIM with a data connection, or try to turn off the peridic connection to BMW to report the cars' status and position. |

This is an I-Drive based vehicle and I have factory bluetooth which is working perfectly.
I was under the impression that the vehicle uses my mobile phone(connected via bluetooth) for data communications. Which is obviously not the case Can anybody tell me where the TCU is located so that I can see what sim card is inserted etc Thanks, Alan |

I think it's in the boot on top of the navigation. Removing the SIM card will not fix your problem, unless you put in and pay for a new SIM with data. Did you buy the car from a BMW dealer? Maybe they can turn off the warning for you, or try the service menu.

Thanks Guys,
I'm on the way to getting this sorted now. Was talking to BMW UK who told me basically because the x5 was being exported the connected drive account was closed hence the car couldn't call home anymore. Bmw UK have given me some instructions as to what to do to disable the assist and connected drive services without effecting any other systems such as phone kit. Found the TCU & it had a german sim card in it alright. Thanks, Alan |
