Actually, I need both connections. The signal goes from the cable box directly to the TV, for best quality. It also goes from the cable box to the DVD and then to the TV, since it is a DVD recorder as well as a player. I wouldn't usually watch it through the DVD, but it is wired that way to allow us to record TV shows on the RW disks. Thanks for the comment.
