I suspect that this is just a glitch due to Toyota cutting production during the GFC. Before the GFC, Toyota was well ahead of GM which was ahead of VW. I guess Toyota's more recent woes with recalls and the like may have an further impact but we'll have to wait and see. My understanding is that the fastest growing car company globally is Hyundai.

Either way, I can't see why the new Touareg will sell any better than the current model which has always been outsold in Australia by the Cayenne despite the price difference between the two and the fact that both were built on the same platform.
