Has anyone else considered Porsche’s all-new 2011 Cayenne and VW's new 2011 Touareg? know I will most likely get another X5, but these two do seem to be good alternatives.

Look forward to hearing some critiques. I will start: Touareg is not as nimble as X5, What the Cayenne says about the driver: more income than style?.

The 2011 Toureg will be a great seller ..we have friends with current shape diesel and they say that its very unrefined and 'truck like' to drive compared to when I take them for spin in X5. But VW are #1 for a reason ..and the Tourag and Porsche will really lift the stakes this year and next...

I've never liked the shape of Cayenne ..but the new rounded off shape is starting to lure me (at least I'd take a look, whereas previously we'd just walk straight past the dealership - with a backwards glance at the GT2 of-course)

I'm thinking of 50i at end of year as my new 35d is a bit laggy IMHO .... and it just doesnt feel like 580Nm to me - sorry guys. I think the extra kw and twin turbo on V8 will be a ripper - and I dont care about fuel economy as I travel less the 7k per year..

I took a 4.8 out and it just didnt feel right without turbo pull ..so went with 35d ... will be interesting to see what pricing will look like with 2011 models ..and what BMW Aus are willing to throw in as standard now ..esp given Audi is nipping at their heels ...

Have considered the cayenne, the wife likes the current one, i dont. The new one looks interesting, could be a good alternative to the x5 however, pricing will be much more i think, and also its not available yet.

REPORT: VW takes over #1 carmaker slot, sings "Wir sind die Meister, mein Freund" — Autoblog

don't know if this is still the case - but would not surprise me given Toyota hick-up etc .. VW just goes from strength to strength as a car maker ..

agree, the new Cayenne looks much nicer than the current one, a little bit funny from the rear, the interior is a killer though, looks fantastic.

Cayenne, especially the new, is rumoured to share many parts with Touareg, would be interesting to see how the new Touareg drives, old one is far behind X5. Hybrid is an interesting choice too.

putting price aside, X5M suites you more? much better value than the turbo V8 Cayenne?

My x5 is still at the repair shop and now driving a 10yrs old camry, man, even that reminds me how smooth a petrol engine is compared with oil burners

keen to test drive the petrol hybrid Cayenne or Touareg. cost a large premium to get hybrid or diesel for reduction of fuel consumption, funny overall money saving wise it doesn't work out that way, more just for a peace of mind for an everyday driving

My friend just bought one of those electric Camry - as I took off without an engine sound i just muttered to myself something along the line .... "that just don't seem right" electric hybrids will be interesting over next 5-10 yrs that's for sure.

In terms of next X --- X5M would be great - but on road in Melbourne as you would probably know is north of $200k ...I'd rather have a standards X5 and secondhand Boxster S for that sort of money ..not that I have that sort of money given my mortgage + 2 kids in childcare

did a quick call to the Mel Porsche dealer, they said the demand for the new Cayenne is very high and they have taken a large number of orders.

The hybrid would be around 160k plus other costs and options, diesel one is much cheaper around 110k plus but not available for order yet

will go in and have a look when they have one

I'd look but don't think I'd be happy ...

walking away from a Porsche dealership with anything but a Boxster S or secondhand 911 with PDK ..in a few years the current PDK models should be around the $150k mark ..that's my strike zone.
