i actually think i have the same thing developing on my driver's side door trim. IMO the issue is not wear and tear but a production flaw.

my dealer replaced the trim on my steering wheel as it was peeling, no questions asked. but i do have the extended maintennance and warranty plans also.

where it me i would bring it to your dealer's attention. certainly can't hurt.
