what's covered?

The light poplar wood trim on my left rear door has a hairline crack spanning about 6 inches laterally. Only from a certain angle is it visible (especially from the driver's seat looking back) - it's evident when you run your fingers over it. I don't know when or how it got there though I do have kids - also like to know if anyone has experienced faults in their wood trim at all.

BMW's 4-yr full coverage thing has me wondering if this is covered or considered wear & tear? Approximately how much would it cost to replace that if not covered?

I haven't seen that before, but others may have.

Unless it is a known issue, this type of thing depends very much on your relationship with your dealer.

I had a broken speaker grill in the X5 just after it was new, LR door kick panel. I also have kids. When I was in for service I showed it to the service advisor, and asked him to fix it. I expected to pay for that. When I came back to pick it up I asked, and he said that yeah, the kids probably kicked it in, it definitely wasn't warranty, but that it was a new car so they wanted to take care of me. Their dime. Good guys. Never hurts to give them a chance to surprise you.

i actually think i have the same thing developing on my driver's side door trim. IMO the issue is not wear and tear but a production flaw.

my dealer replaced the trim on my steering wheel as it was peeling, no questions asked. but i do have the extended maintennance and warranty plans also.

where it me i would bring it to your dealer's attention. certainly can't hurt.

Same here. I have a small hairline crack on the wood trim on the driver's side door. Next time I'm in for service I will bring it up. Sadly I didn't see it before buying the car as I'm sure they would have fixed it before delivery (I bought it as a CPO a few days ago).
