Mine is a '02 3.0d (184hp) with steptronic gear.

It makes 27mpg with a 30% town / 50% road / 20% highway drive. I have an european way of driving (35 mph in town, 60 mph on road, 100 mph on highway) with frequent overtaking, and necessary acceleration to get in the traffic.

I realy prefer the Gas V8's sound compared to the 6 in line diesel, but gas is much more expensive than in the USA. BMW's 3.0 Diesel is not so noisy and is the only way for an X5 in europe if you ride more than 10000 miles per year and if you want to resale it...
