Potential 2007-2008 X5 4.8 purchase

Hi all,
I have had my eye on a used X5 4.8 for a while and have a few questions. First off people tell me don't own one without a warranty? With that being said I have been focusing my search on a CPO one at a BMW dealer which seems the direction I will probably go. Right now if I buy a CPO car and finance through BMW I can get 6 yr 100K maintenance which extends the 4yr 50K one that comes when you but the car new. Obviously if I buy a 2007 it will be coming off this within the next year. Also the CPO will warranty the the car for 6 yrs or 100K so this too is great. I can't see buying such a nice used car and be making payments and having to worry about a costly repair or maintenance on the car.

Once more thing I noticed is that with the Sport package the car has very aggressive tires that I assume wear our very fast as opposed to the standard ones with some sort of all season package. I have friends with an m5, m3, 335i and they all complain about not only the cost of the tires but how little life they get out of them. I have a 2000 CLK430 convertible and am going on about 5 yrs on my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and have about 40K miles on them.

Anyways would love to get some input on people that own a 2007 or 2008 and how they have liked the car. Also if I buy a private party one within warranty can I extend the maintainable with BMW and if so any idea what it would run?
