O.k. after being pushed by the indy man to make a decision, I have decided to go with a reconditioned turbo thats imported from the U.K. with a one year Warranty, he also seemed to think it was a good choice. (apparently part of the deal is that the old one gets sent back to the U.K.)
I asked the indy about the difference between the "honeywell-garret turbo" and the "original BMW turbo" and his explanation was that BMW just put their own stamp on it... (Expensive stamp)
The indy also assured me that they will clean out all the manifolds and filters when fitting the new turbo, their only concern is they are worried about driving the car into the garage, something about the engine propellers getting damaged.
Anyway this has turned into more an info post than a seeking advise post, I will give an update next week when it's all fixed.
I love my X but like most BMW's (especially high end ones) they cost a fortune to maintain.
