New E70 on order
I ordered a 2012 E70 sport this weekend from a dealer that I've never set foot in. I specified a XDrive 35i with the convenience package, adaptive suspension, multicontour seats, and more. I negotiated with 6 different dealers all east of the Mississippi before finalizing a price for a performance center delivery.
My local BMW dealer was the first dealer I approached about buying this vehicle, and I really wanted to buy the vehicle locally. The local dealer wasn't serious about ordering a X5 and padded the price with as many B.S. charges as possible (compulsory paint protection package, nitrogen in tires package, etched glass package, etc.). He was willing to remove some but not all of these surcharges. Plus he has markup on MF, acquisition fee, etc. Needless to day, he was quickly out of the competition. In fact he got a little testy when I mentioned that he was in competition with dealers out of the area.
The deal I am getting is about $1500 above invoice, and paying a $200 training fee, but no MACO. It will be a leased vehicle at the buy rate minus the owner loyalty credit. No markup on the MF or acquisition fee. I might have done better, but I feel that the price is about the best I could do with out sinking a lot more time into negotiations. There comes a point where my time is valuable too.
I tried to negotiate with a few dealers out of the area including one that is known for performance center deliveries. The guy known for PCD wasn't willing to negotiate at all. It was an embarrassment for him and for the people who recommended him.
I am looking forward to my true sport E70. I had an E53 V8, but when gas hit $5/gallon in my area, I promptly got rid of it. Hopefully I'll post pics in a month or two.
Thank you.
