This happened to mine. Battery goes bad or voltage gets out of spec either high or low and the computers go crazy. Abs light comes on, dsc lights come on, transmission failsafe comes on, even low tire indicator comes on.

Since you are in orange county autozone has an agm (absorbed glass matt) maintenance free battery that fits the x5. This is the same as the oem from bmw. This is of course if you need it.

Alternator can go out causing either high voltage or low voltage, check this also.
