buttons should light up when you turn your lights on. I don't have digital tv but i'm sure you can mount the antenna somewhere inside near a window, no need to go to the roof. For the gps antenna, you can leave inside where the unit is in the dash, or put next to the windshield from inside where the speaker is somewhere - that is where I put mine, no need to go to the roof either.
