large piece of plastic anyone? Get a piece plenty big enuff for the entire area. Lay it out flat and spray some fabric glue on the back and let it tack up. this will give u a temporary hold while pushing the plastic in the nooks and cranies. any excess just fold over and glue down too. the time and effort vs. tape/ foil is fantastic. I got plans to do something very similar soon.
