So, I have been reading and it seems like you need a WinXP laptop with some software and a special usb/serial adapter to connect to the OBD-II port...

I found this cable/adapter: BMW E53 X5 M54 3.0L > Search > Usb > ES#6928 OBDII USB Diagnostic Cable - VT1A0003

Is this the adapter I need?

What about software? I have hard of NCSExpert and others... But what do I really need? Thanks!
What does Daytime running light looks like on an E53 X5? Don't think i've seen one, do you mind post some pics of your car?

Thanks
