They are a little fiddly to take out, but not too difficult. Be very careful with the pipe fittings on top as the plastic nozzles can be brittle and if you break them you then need to replace the whole unit(s). Also the pipes on my 2006 3.0D were fitted with some sort of use once clamp, so you will need to be able to replace these. I used nylon cable ties to refit my pipe and they seem to have worked ok.

Also be very careful not to bend the wire holding the float as this is quite flimsy and more often than not could be the cause of your misread.

I had to remove both my senders to drain my tank after I received a bad load of diesel. Even though my X is diesel the the units seem identical to the OEM page posted by JCL
