To expand on Ard's post, BMW has issued a bulletin advising to NOT use LL-04 oils in North America. They don't hold up. It is believed to be due to the low initial TBN in LL-04 oils being lowered even further with our specific North American fuels, a combination of the sulphur levels and ethanol being the culprits.

Lots of posters try to buy the LL-04 oils in North America, believing that they are doing the right thing, but it is an ill-advised plan.
