I havent done any work to it other than regular maintenance, so i'm guessing slightly misfiring cylinders, sounds expensive but typical.

factory hitch is the only way to go, instead of getting a used one, go to a dealer - should be in vicinity of $1000 installed... too many parts involved in the installation to go used route...
I've seen detailed installations of it, and yes its complicated, but if the part itself is $300 or less it would certainly be in my best interest to install it myself. I was really hoping to get one off an x5 that had the front side of it totaled.

amp... depending on the place that diagnosed it, the diagnosis might right, might be wrong... what are the symptoms? there are a lot of people here that can guide in the right direction if you want to get a replacement amp...
The symptoms are as follows, at first it wouldnt play sound but still start for a couple weeks, then all sound stopped going to the speakers. This happened after one of the windows broke and water got inside the door panel during a heavy rainstorm (yes, my window broke on the single busiet work week of the year and it of course happened to rain like a monsoon exactly then). So, the head unit works just fine, powers up and everything, but nothing to the speakers. I dont need a symphony, I would prefer the cheapest amp solution and I will hopefully install it myself if that is possible. It is just the business CD player and half of the bulbs on the display are burned, but that doesnt matter because usually I just plug in my phone as AUX and use that.
