wow i just got out of my car 5 mins ago and was looking right at the shifter light and was thinking the same thing, and i know this happens on all the autos do that weather its a 3,5,7 or x3 ive had em all and it will stay on for like a minute or two after the car is shut off or the door is opened... not sure why.
