Shifter lights stay on????
Stupid question but I never noticed this on my other BMW's...
When I park the truck , the "P" stays on and the little light beside it stays on also. Is this right?

wow i just got out of my car 5 mins ago and was looking right at the shifter light and was thinking the same thing, and i know this happens on all the autos do that weather its a 3,5,7 or x3 ive had em all and it will stay on for like a minute or two after the car is shut off or the door is opened... not sure why.

this has been covered in several threads - in early-early X5 the light stays on for days on... on newer ones, changeover somewhere in 2000 or 2001, the light stays on for 16 minutes after the last activity on the iBus, and then it turns off, the car is officially asleep!!!
