battery or alternator/voltage regulator... if the voltage spikes over 16 volts, it can wreck a havoc in the car... and of course, if it drops below nominal, it can play trick on the brain too.. like oxygen - too much and you are burning fast, too low, and you start seeing things...

have them read the codes, i bet there will be a code or two related to the voltage...
