Unscrew the back cover and take the key out of the ignition.
The ballast wire just twists a quarter turn then comes off the back of the bulb, I wouldn't go through all the trouble of pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery just to change the light bulbs, been swapping for 10 years and not an issue.
Now I say key left out of the ignition just in case you go to test something and forget to plug it in first. As long as the ballast plug is on the back of the bulb securely, and the headlight switch is in off or -0-, you'll be fine.
OP, did you put on the earmuffs before pulling the fuse?
