X5 has the CD behind the screen and it worked? Can you take a picture and post it please. I don't know if we are talking about the same 'oranges' here.
Qsilver answered your question with the diagrams but now I am totally confused about your last statement. I am pretty sure BMW never made a NAV with CD behind the screen for X5...
