Not yet, but I plan to later this summer. We have an older Palomino Colt pop-up that we'll be dragging out to Michigan and back again for some beach time.
Like others have said, the X5 is a capable towing machine; I've used it for towing various trailers around town, and a U-Haul box trailer for a bit farther out of town, moving my kids. Not a problem. Fuel mileage suffers a bit more than I'd like, but that would happen no matter what you drive.
Your big concern as I see it is the lack of a hitch; the OE kit seems to be pretty hard to find. Some of the cheaper aftermarket hitches bolt up to the unibody
and the rear subframe, which is a terrible idea; avoid them. The OE wiring kit is much easier than the hitch to find at dealers; go with that instead of anything aftermarket or universal. You don't want to be hacking up any part of your wiring harness.
